tracy: never said i could play well by ear! lol i just keep trying...
Hazel Quinn: You can play by ear? You ratbag! I'm so jealous! I've only recently started doing that and I'm useless....you must be naturally gifted.
tracy: I can play afe wthings by ear. Can't read music. Used to play guitar in college, but too hard with my hands now. Piano is so soothing to me!
Hazel Quinn: Tracy, so glad you're learning the piano! SO mnay people say to me "I wish I'd learned" and I tell them to just start!! But that's bloody awful about your poor friend. I'm so sorry.See you again soon...
tracy: I hope you are ok after your scooter fall. That scares me terribly as a close friend of mine passed away when she was trapped under her powerchair. She was only 40. Wow am i the happy tidings girl! It was devastating to me. Now on to better things. Love the piano, actually trying to learn to play.
Hazel Quinn: Hey, I like that story, Marie!Shame they didn't move it from Downing St to me!!
Marie: Hi Hazel, love your site. My claim to piano fame is my brother's in removals and had to move a grand from 11 Downing Street - down stairs. Needless to say, there were many hands that day.

Randy Newman: 'Potholes' from 'Harps & Angels'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic   The new Randy Newman album 'Harps & Angels' is doing well, many critics calling it the 'Album of the Year'. Here's a  voice and piano version of the autobiographical song 'Potholes'  recorded for Studio 360. Click on the Studio 360 link for an interview with Randy, including what he thinks about that  'Family Guy' sketch.

Hey you,
I just wanted to drop by and let you know that I'm starting piano lessons tomorrow! I'm so excited. I haven't played in forever, especially not since all the surgeries on my left arm. We'll just have to see how I handle the bass clef. I know the instructor really well -- he has been the accompanist for my voice lessons for the past couple of years. He's a delight to say the least. When I signed up for the lessons, I immediately thought of you and this blog. Even though voice is now my principle instrument (oboe used to be), the piano is the closest to my heart!

Is this the same Randy Newman who used to play in the band The Who, Hazel? Or is this a different Randy Newman? Either way, I like the song - it's very bluesy. Thanks for sharing this, my friend.
